Training - Glamour Exploring Lighting Styles

So you are technically competent, can control the shoot, and can animate a model (unsure? - see getting the picture and extracting the mood), so then it's all down to the final component of taking good photographs... lighting style. This will make or break the final photograph.

Style has a very broad meaning, but for the purposes of this course we are going to explore relatively simple to achieve studio lighting, and how it can have a dramatic impact on the style of an image.

The photographs above demonstrate the huge difference a very simple change of lighting can achieve, and below there are some simple changes to either the backdrop or the addition of colour gels.

Armed with a few basic lighting skills, you will be able to select a style which best suits the image you are after... you will be able to adjust to suit the emotion or overall feel. This gives a finish to the end photograph which is so lacking in the average amateur glamour photograph.

All you require is a these few lighting skills and the ability to slow down and be more deliberate on what you want to achieve i.e. no more rapid fire "shoot and hope" photography!

Start taking images that both you and your model are proud of... and if you are someone who likes to help aspiring models put a portfolio together, then this quality of pictures will actually get them work!

The course is all day (eight hours), and will include: -

  • light metering
  • pre visualization
  • lighting - flat lit high key
  • lighting - mood lit high key
  • lighting - mood lit low key

The course fee includes models, lunch, and refreshments throughout the day.

If you are an individual, the same training can be done with the advanced lighting course

Notes: normally it is up to you to find a group (photography clubs etc.) however, if you do not belong to a club, please email me to register your interest and once I have a group of people I will run a course.
