Why hire a model through STUDIO 11 photography?

Whilst you may bring any model you wish when hiring the studio, experience has shown that when clients book their own model, reliability has often been an issue. Unfortunately, if your model does not turn up and/or you have to cancel without at least 24 hours notice, we will have to charge for the studio time booked.

However, we have very strict criteria for our listed models: -

100% reliability (any 'no-show' will lead to immediate removal from the list).

They must have some modelling experience and be comfortable working to the levels they advertise i.e. fashion, topless, nude etc.

The models fees (including travel expenses) must be clearly indicated prior to the shoot.

Notes: -

Models receive 100% of their advertised fee.

Photography is great fun and in order to keep it this way, studio hire clients are requested to treat both models and staff in an appropriate and respectful manner at all times.

Use of photographs - keeping things friendly and simple: -

For most clients, a studio shoot is just for fun and therefore the images taken are not for any commercial or other purpose. To prevent any confusion regarding model releases and copyright, we suggest that no model release is requested and you conform to the informal STUDIO 11 agreement between models and photographers i.e. that should you wish to publish images (in any media format), you first email the image/s to the model and gain consent. The model will only refuse consent if either the image/s are of a very poor quality, or is outside of the agreed work level... obviously, either could damage the models career.

If the photographs that you take are for a particular purpose (commercial or otherwise), we would suggest that a *clearly written agreement between yourself and the model should be entered into prior to the shoot (most models will not charge a fee for this but you should check prior to a shoot).

Note: *Clearly Written

There are generic 'model release forms' (easily downloaded from the internet) which are non-specific, misleading, and have caused problems in the past (sample case below). We suggest that such a generic model release should always be modified to state the intended and limited use of the images.

If no specific agreement is made between photographer/s and model/s, it will be taken that all parties have accepted the STUDIO 11 informal agreement (which has had the approval of both photographers and models and worked successfully for over 10 years).

Sample Case: -

A 'so-called' professional photographer hired two models for a normal glamour shoot and requested that the models signed a standard model release form. In good faith and with no added charge, the models signed the release. Images were later spotted by friends on an Escort Agency website and with content claiming that these models were prostitutes available for sexual services.

The photographer had sold the images without the necessary restrictions on there use.

Obviously, this was highly offensive to the models and without the immediate withdrawal of the images from the website, this would have led to a legal action being taken against both the photographer and the website owners.

We don't think that going into all the laborious and complex issues of copyright laws, model releases etc. is necessary or helpful but suffice to say that the sample case demonstrates two things 1) the photographer did not understand the limitations of a generic model release, and 2) dishonesty and taking advantage of young and trusting people is not only highly offensive but could have lead to a very costly legal actions.

The easy remedy to avoid such problems is easy... keep photography honest, friendly and fun!
