| Studio Hire Rules
STUDIO 11 welcomes amateur photographers... from the complete beginner, to the more experienced enthusiast, to well established photography club members and groups.
Each will get an equal opportunity to fully enjoy the facilities available, and where necessary training and assistance is at hand. Our aim is to offer people the chance to take high quality photographs in a friendly, professional, and well equipped environment.
In return for our services we expect our customers to treat all our staff, facilities, and models, with due consideration and respect. We will not tolerate any *'inappropriate conduct' towards models. Any person who fails to comply will be ejected from the premises immediately.
USE OF PHOTOGRAPHS... photographs taken of STUDIO 11 registered models (at the prices quoted), are for personal use only. If you wish to show the photographs in the 'public domain' for any purpose whatsoever (personal or commercial) this will require a 'Model Release', and a fee may be applicable (for further information see bottom of page).
However, we have arranged a deal with the models which will permit the showing of photographs either for genuine photography club exhibitions and competitions, and/or published in hobbyist photography magazines e.g. Practical Photographer.
Unless a model release has been obtained, the ownership of copyright of all images remains with the model. Failure to comply with these restrictions may lead to legal action.
*Inappropriate conduct... models may not be touched for any reason whatsoever. Suggestive and/or lewd conduct (verbal or physical) is unacceptable. Models will not offer, or agree to, any services other than photographic work!
In order to promote good relationships with models and clients alike, we make our rules clear. Should you bring your own models, please ensure that you are fully aware of their 'terms and conditions'. STUDIO 11 can take no responsibility for disputes between Studio hirers and any models not booked directly through us. (Note: this is not to restrict your free choice of models in any way, however we have had some experiences where persons have not fully clarified terms, and this has led to some tacky and unprofessional moments).
PLEASE NOTE:
THE TAKING OF EXPLICIT PORNOGRAPHIC IMAGES ARE NOT PERMITTED
THE USE OF VIDEO EQUIPMENT IS NOT PERMITTED
Benefits of the Studio Rules: -
People who use our facilities can come here in the full knowledge that this is a photographic studio and nothing else. We therefore attract nice people who have a genuine interest in photography, and who are always respectful of both staff and models.
Amateur photographers do not by accident or design place poor quality and/or inappropriate images in the public domain, and therefore nobody gets offended or upset in anyway.
Therefore, some great pictures are achieved; everybody has a good time; the models feel secure; and all is well!
So if you agree to the rules... please book your studio hire session... you will be made very welcome!
USE OF PHOTOGRAPHS: Further Information
Some people have expressed some concerns or confusion regarding model releases / image copyright ownership... the so-called "norm" being that the photographer automatically owns the copyright, and can therefore do what he/she likes with pictures taken.... so why is it different at STUDIO 11?
Firstly, the 'automatic ownership' of copyright, is only relevant where no terms have been pre-determined, and also ownership of copyright does not necessarily mean that you have the right to put images in the public domain (for either personal or financial reasons).
At STUDIO 11 we do not use 'model releases' as a method of gaining more money, but have created terms which protect the models careers i.e. a photographer may believe that his / her images are very good when in fact they are not. Unfortunately, if the images are then put into the public domain, this can have a serious negative effect on the models career. In reality, fees for model releases are rarely asked for, but instead if a photographer supplies a sample of any image and asks for permission to use it in the public domain, as long as the image is of an appropriate quality and nature, this is granted free of charge... this seems a fair and mature way of dealing with this sensitive issue.
WHY ALL THESE STUDIO RULES: -
I have been working with both aspiring and established models now for many years, and there are some people (usually men) who think that if they part with a few quid to hire a model, that they have the right to behave in a variety of very inappropriate ways.
The inappropriate behavior ranges from being disrespectful, through to stalking (I know of at least one occasion where police intervention became necessary).
An average person who knew what I knew, would actually be embarrassed to be a man.
So now I have strict rules which help prevent this sort of behavior and this works in two ways: -
- I give sound advise to young aspiring models on how to protect themselves.
- Rarely now do dishonest and despicable men come here after reading these rules, and if they do I am soon on their case... they are definitely not welcome!
